Bluebell Walk

Bluebells, bluebells everywhere!  Under the hedgerows, alongside the lanes, but most strikingly beneath the trees, where they stretched out in every direction as far as the eye could see. And they were delicate English bluebells in that vivid electric blue, not those paler, much larger Spanish bluebells that have invaded our woods in recent years.

This was just one of the highlights on the ten-mile walk lead by Brian Harrison on a warm, sunny day in the middle of May. Others included stunning views over the sunlit Wolds, occasional glimpses of Castle Howard shimmering like a fairy fortress on the horizon, and the deer which we disturbed and bounded away from us across a ploughed field. But it was the bluebell woods which created a lasting impression on this halcyon day in the Yorkshire countryside.
