Bridlington U3A Mission Statement Coming together in friendship to find joy and renewal in recreation, learning and teaching, through a vibrant, effective and inclusive local U3A supported by a community of dedicated volunteers Bridlington U3A - Local History Group The Local History Groups meets to hear talks and to discuss local history, particularly Bridlington, then East Yorkshire. Speakers occasionally visit the group, but this depends on there being sufficient funds. Visits have been made to the Priory Church and the Harbour History Museum, while Nial Adams has presented a slide show on the geology of East Yorkshire. Leader Mike Wilson has presented material on Queen Henrietta Maria's visit to the town in 1643, and October 2008 meeting dealt with local folklore. Two members of the group joined Mike Wilson to watch "Come Hell or High Water," Bridlington's town play, performed in 1995. It was intended to have a wider showing to more members, but it was decided that the quality of the DVD is not good enough to show on a large screen. If you'd still like to see the play, contact Mike Wilson. The group has learned of research on the town's Cenotaph, heard about the stonework of local and Wolds churches and buildings from Richard Myerscough and the last meeting of the season - Friday, 26th March, at the Resource Centre - will feature a visit by David Brown, great grandson of Kit Brown. He and Mike will discuss Frank Brown's "Heroes of the Sea."
