Bridlington U3A Mission Statement Coming together in friendship to find joy and renewal in recreation, learning and teaching, through a vibrant, effective and inclusive local U3A supported by a community of dedicated volunteers Bridlington U3A - Wine Appreciation
Each time we
meet we will learn something new! We will learn about the vocabulary
of wine, how wine is made, the geography of wine growing and about
the different grapes. We will also talk about food and wine. In
particular we will learn about the wine we will be drinking at each
session and enjoying each other's company as we look at the
different colours of wines (purple, pink, ruby, garnet, purple?),
smell or 'snort' the bouquet (fruity, floral, earthy, spicey?) and
then finally taste (dry, sweetness, acidity, strength and length?).
We will all maintain a log of our learning so that we can build up a
portfolio of the wines we have enjoyed. Drinking wine is never going
to be quite the same again.
The wine appreciation group is now established. The group has selected and tasted wines from Australia and Chile so far. The knowledge gained by the group, which includes country of origin, types of grapes, locations of vineyards, has totally changed the way the members now view wines. They are on their way to a more professional approach when selecting, purchasing and drinking wines . . . and it all helps to make wine even more enjoyable.
